What a post is
A post is a short note with optional media — up to nine photos, or a single short video. It is the basic unit of everything on MemoCove: your own record of a moment, which you can also choose to share. Posts are never ranked against each other and never scored, so a quiet, ordinary post sits exactly as comfortably as any other.
Choosing who can see it
Until you belong to a group, a new post starts as Public. Once you have joined or created one, it starts as Group only with no groups selected, so nothing goes anywhere until you say so. Before you post, you pick its audience:
- Public — anyone on MemoCove can see it, and people who follow you will find it in their Following timeline. You can add a public post to groups too: it then also appears in those groups, and it stays public.
- Group only — visible to you and the members of the groups you add it to. Your followers see it only if they belong to one of those groups too. If you post as Group only without adding a group, MemoCove asks you to confirm first, since only you would be able to see it.
- Private — visible only to you. A private post is your own record, never shared with anyone, so it can’t be added to a group.
A post can be in up to five groups at once. For a Group-only post, being a member of any one of them is enough to see it. See one post in several groups for how that plays out.
You can tell a post’s audience at a glance: a small people icon on the post means Group only, a lock means Private, and a Public post has no icon. A post that is in groups also shows their names as tags at the bottom — but only the groups you belong to, so no one sees the name of a group they aren’t in.
Why visibility lives with each post
Many apps make privacy an account-wide switch: your whole account is public, or your whole account is locked. MemoCove puts the choice on each post instead, because real life is mixed. The same person might share a sunset publicly, a child’s birthday with family only, and a private note meant for no one else — all in the same afternoon. Per-post visibility means you never have to choose between one audience and keeping a private record; you simply pick the right reach for the thing you are sharing, every time.
Places and @mentions
- Places. On your phone, tap Location in the composer to attach a place. MemoCove asks for location permission the first time, then suggests places nearby — or you can search, or simply type your own name for the spot. Everyone who can see the post sees the place name, with a link to open it in a map. Adding a place is always optional, and for now it is only possible from the phone app.
- @mentions. Type
@and a username to mention someone in a post or a comment. When you mention someone in a Public post or in a comment, they get a notification.
Changing your mind
Visibility is not permanent. From a post’s menu, choose Change visibility to turn a public note into a private one, or to share an old private post to a group, and to change which groups include it. The text and media themselves can’t be edited after posting — if you spot a typo, delete the post and post it again (deleting frees up your slot for the day).
When you add a post to a group, that group’s members are told about it, just as with a new post, and it takes its place in the group’s timeline by the date you wrote it — an older post doesn’t jump to the top. Taking a post out of a group is silent. Switching a post to Private takes it out of every group; if you open it up again later, choose its groups again.
There is one deliberate exception: once other people have commented on a post, it can no longer be made Public, because that would show their comments to everyone. Sizes and limits
- Text up to 2,000 characters — or none at all, if a photo says it better.
- Photos up to 10 MB each, in JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or HEIC. The Free plan allows two photos per post; Pro allows nine. Before you post, drag the thumbnails in the composer into the order you want.
- Video (Pro) — one video per post, up to 30 seconds, compressed on your phone before it is uploaded. A post carries either photos or a video, not both.
